It's a go! Report from Mike Jolley and Rockie Martin
On September 23rd, Rockie Martin reported a blowout start to the Teal Season:

“Blackjack ate 3 ducks. We had 24, 6 limits for 6 hunters. 19 Bluewings and 5 Greenwings… Had 2 Canadians fly right over the blind. Saw 3 groups of Big Ducks. Jason one of the new members had a Pintail Drake and Hen land in the decoys. Jason and his group were done in 15 minutes!!!! We are at 75 birds for early teal season!!!! If this is a indicator of what the season is going to be like, then it is going to be interesting!!!!! Everything is full and overflowing. All areas on Pintail look great. All the work we did summer before last looks great! Get out AND SHOOT SOME BIRDS!!!!!!! If you have not joined or paid we are close to selling all memberships for the season, so get the money in for one of the best seasons so far at Pintail…..”

Mike Jolley also came back with a raging season opener:

“The 09 Teal season was just what we thought it would be, the best in a long time, with 137 birds taken. There are spots where you can see smartweed growing as far as you can see and a lot of the golden millet came back and its growing fast. We are seeing a lot of big ducks now and of course a lot of teal hanging around. Never this early in the year have we seen so many ducks and geese.

With everything finally in place we think it will be a 2000 bird season or more. We never thought in a million years that we would want it to stop raining for a while, but we will take it. We're going to have the best season ever and hope the same for everyone. Be safe and take the kids hunting. Our youth season is Oct 24th and 25th, hope to get some great pics of the kids this year, stay tuned."

It’s been an unseasonably wet season for Pintail Farms. Every single lake, pond and duck hole are brimming full of water, we didn’t have to tap our wells to irrigate this year. The weather gurus are predicting one of the coldest winters in a decade, if not several decades. We have acres of smartweed and millet as far as you can see… What more could ducks want, migrating South to North Texas? We are anticipating the best waterfowl hunting season this decade… Come join us, you surely don’t want to miss out on this one!

We will be hosting our annual “Youth Hunt” during the weekend of October 24th and 25th. It’s a great time for families to get together, hunt and enjoy nature. It’s also a great opportunity to instruct the next generation on gun safety. Every year we read about hunting accidents, many of which involve seasoned hunters, most of which could have been avoided. The youth hunt is a great time to re-enforce safety in firearm handling and usage.

Pintail Farms wishes all hunters an enjoyable and safe hunting season this year.

Mark Alyn just got back from a great hunt on the Alaska peninsula, and was fortunate to get a nice old battle scarred Brown Bear. He had a wee bit of excitement as other bears became a bit too interested in them and the kill at dark. You can see his picture below.

We hope you enjoy the photographs below and will come back every week to check out the weekly Field Reports, and our pictures.
We will be updating the Field Reports on a weekly basis, and Photo Gallery on a monthly basis. If you haven't seen our "Duck Man" video yet... you really should take a few minutes there. The video footage was shot at Pintail Farms last year and the music is great. Be sure to read the Lone Star Outdoor News article. Firearm Safety Tip #1 - ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.
