| Hunting Report
- October 6 to October 12, 2006 |
There was quite a
bit of rain in North Texas this week which wasn't good for dove
flight but continued to fill the newer lakes. With the recent rains
the millet and smartweed is really taking off, the millet is 4
feet tall around some of the levees, where we will be able to use
lay down blinds. The ducks will be landing 10 feet away. It looks
like we got 2000 pounds of seed down at the right time. We
also shredded about 20 acres of dove weed to try and catch some
of the doves migrating.

Dove hunting has been
fair at best for most of the North Texas Region. That should change
with the first significant cold front expected this week. Thursday's
(October 12th) high temperature is predicted to be 62°F, with
a low of 39°F. The rest of the week high temperatures should
be around 71-73°F with lows in the 40s at night.
A new crop of northern birds should make it into Texas along with the most significant
cold front of this season to date. North Zone Dove season runs through Oct. 30.
Prospects are good.
Duck Season will open at Pintail Farms with a youth hunt on October 28th. Blue
Wing and Pintails were seen in the fields this week: |
