My son shot his first banded Pintail Drake, and it made for a special moment in the blind for Dad and Son. There is nothing better than watching a young man's eyes get bigger than ever, it was sure fun and something we will never forget.
I think Saturday night Mark Reed, his son, Adam and Jason summed it up the best by making a toast to one of the best seasons they had ever had and thanking everyone who was involved. I think this year the hunter of the year will have to be split between Mark and Adam, its hard to sit out there hours at a time but most of the time it was the 2 of them out there having a blast and shooting their limits.
I want to thank everyone who hunted with us this year and everyone that helped making Pintail Farms the best duck hunting club in Texas, everyone be safe this summer and cant wait till next year again. We will be working during the off season to make Pintail Farms even better for the 2010 - 2011 Waterfowl Season.

Lucy returns to the field to finish her first full duck season. Saturday, hunting with Rockie, Adam and Travis was slow but she retrieves the 7 birds we knocked down. In the afternoon, Lucy and me decided to hunt the woods and the 43. Sitting in the woods was really cool but the birds must not have found it yet and the cloudy day didn't help. When it's slow, the Luce grabs a nap as she know when I start shooting there's work to be done (unfortunately, it's usually wondering where the birds are cause I missed). Used a lot of scooby snacks this year apologizing to the dog.
This season will be remembered as the best duck season of my life. Not just for the ducks and all of the hunting I had time to do this year, but the entire experience Rockie, Mike and Mike provided that allowed me and my family the opportunity to spend more time together and bond doing an activity we all love. Kim made 4 trips to the farm this year. If we had to hunt public, she probably would not have gotten to see her dog hunt and would have missed a couple of really special weekends with the kids (like hunting on the ice in 18-20 degree conditions). Saw many, many, many birds, and harvested some of the prettier birds ever. Bryce and Liz have a gadwall and widgeon in the freezer, I have a beautiful pintail and my first redhead awaiting a trip to the taxidermist.
Serviced the Wood Duck nesting boxers Sunday afternoon. 13 hatched out of one box and looks like a hen laid 3 in another before abandoning that nest. Hopefully we will show continued success and someday have a nice population of Woodies to hunt. Am planning to rough out another 4 boxes this summer for the young guys to put together and set sometime next season giving the population more chances to grow.
The habitat and experience have improved every year I've been a member and I'm excited for the future of duck hunting at Pintail. Want everyone to know, I enjoyed spending time with you this season and am already anxiously awaiting the next.
